An app I found really useful

Airdroid – This application is like iTunes (on steroids) for Android. It has so many features like – android backup to pc/mac, remote control, screen mirroring, screen recording and much more.

I’ve been using it for many years and it is super stable unlike other alternatives for android.

You can get it for Mobile and Desktop from here.

A Podcast episode I loved re-visiting —

Joe Rogan podcast episode with Elon Musk – This was I think the epitome of any podcast made ever. The Tony Stark of our times – Elon Musk and the greatest podcast of our time – Joe Rogan. They drank alcohol on the live stream and even smoke. But still, it was one of the greatest mind-bending interviews ever.

Hopefully, that description is good enough to make you click this link and go see for yourself – Podcast Episode

An audiobook I listened and cherished —

Big Magic – Creative Living Beyond Fear (Written) by – Elizabeth Gilbert —

I stumbled upon this book while watching a YouTube video. I knew this author – Elizabeth Gilbert who had earlier written – “Eat, Pray, Love“. But the video host suggests this new book of her’s Big Magic with so much intensity that I couldn’t move away without checking it out. I listened to a small sample of this book and instantly got hooked.

If you are a writer, aspiring writer or even content creator; you’ll find this book insightful and liberating.

Go check it out on audible.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –

Go See Do Be!

Jerome Liebling

A little explanation of this quote above – Jerome Liebling (mentioned by Ken Burns) gave out this formula to live an amazing life –

  • Go – Get out into the world
  • See – Look around you
  • Do – Make something beautiful
  • Be – Take it in

Until Next Saturday!

Thanks for reading.

Person I ‘m fascinated with  —

Elon Musk – He is the founder of some of the revolutionary companies like SpaceX, Tesla, Neuralink and The boring company. Before that, he was one of the founders of PayPal which eBay acquired and gave him a wealth of US$ 165 Millions. Right now Elon’s net worth is US$20.2 billion (source).

He is like real life Iron Man. Has the mind of an engineer and a problem solver. I’m just fascinated with how he is executing all of his plans. Mainly it is because he has the money now and a bunch of teams working for him round the clock but still as an individual how much he is accomplishing is almost superhuman.

A new gadget in my wishlist —

A gadget to make your dumb airconditioner smart – I’m fascinated with all things automation, so while doing research on new (home) automation products. I stumbled upon this gadget which can connect your old split or window ac (basically any ac with an infrared remote) with your wifi and hence you can control it from anywhere. You can also do geofencing with it. So that if you come in the radius of certain meters of your house it automatically can turn on the AC and vice versa.

Quote I’m pondering on lately –

Saturday-Pentacle - Week 21 - 2017

Purchase of the week

It’s Christmas and finally, I bought something which I was dreaming of for quite a long time. A road bike.

Triban 500

From my childhood, I was pretty inclined towards bicycles. I got my first bike when I was about 7-8 years old. But as I grow to be an adult, the cycling faded away from my life. But the love of cycling didn’t. Around 2014 end I got a mountain bike again but while shifting places had to give it away. So finally this Christmas I got a new bike and it’s a road bike.

I can’t wait to burn the tarmac with it and finally go on touring on my bike.

Merry Christmas!
.
Christmas weekend is coming to an end as I’m writing this. I wish it was longer. But i bet we say that about all good things. We wish that we hold had them longer.
.
But its not about clinging hard to them, but it’s about letting go to see them again. That’s the spirit of Christmas.
.
I watched The Polar Express. I spent time with family. I listened to music. Spent time riding a bike. How did you spent your Christmas?
.
Do you believe? I believe.
.
P.S.: You’ll know the meaning of the last line if you have seen The Polar Express! If not, what are you waiting for, go watch it.

Article(s) I’m enjoying (and pondering)

Elon Musk told us he was sending a car to space – It’s Christmas and seems like Elon is sending Christmas gift to Mars. Yeah, you read it right, Elon Musk who is the founder of SpaceX and often called real life Tony Stark, is sending a Tesla Roadster car as a payload in his rocket, Falcon Heavy, which is going to Mars and beyond.

I thought it was some kind of joke, but then SpaceX and Elon confirmed the payload and the car is actually going to space.

I’m reading/watching/listening to

Few movies from my Christmas movie marathon list –

The Polar Express – This is one of my favourite Christmas movies. Animated movie having Tom Hanks in few of the characters and voices, including the Santa Clause.

Apocalypto – Finally I’m gonna watch this movie. Another Mel Gibson directed movie including blood, gore, jungle and high pace chase and action scenes where the story of a Mayan tribal man ‘Jaguar Paw’ is depicted. He is captured by the Mayan kingdom rulers and how he comes back home fighting.

Approaching the Unknown – Another mars movie. Not keeping high expectation as The Martian but still will watch it.

Book of the week –

Tribe of Mentors: Short Life Advice from the Best in the World

I’m really excited for this book which will be releasing in Dec Month of 2017, because it’s written by none other than my favourite person – Tim Ferriss.

This book is basically a concentrated written version of his podcast (The Tim Ferriss Show) format interviews with the top players of any skill. Billionaires, Athletes,  Artists or Army, you name it.

As I’m yet to read it myself, but I’ve heard about it that every interview has around 11 questions and their answers. Really excited to read it in the Christmas month.

Article(s) I’m enjoying (and pondering)

How to Pack Light: The Complete Guide to Ultralight, Minimalist Travel – This great travel packing article from James Clear is amazing. He covers a lot about how to travel light (rather ultralight). If you are a frequent traveller, this article is for you. It has all the gadgets, backpack and clothing related details.

Bonus thing about following people, who are growth hackers, is the tips and tricks you get to learn which otherwise you won’t.

A good read, hope you’ll find it useful too.

I’m reading/watching/listening to

Tesla Semi truck and Roadster event in 9 minutes – I love Tesla and admire Elon Musk as an innovator and problem solver.

Recently Elon and Tesla launched two new product in the vehicle lineup –

  1. A Semi Truck – Amazing security features, faster than diesel trucks and autopilot facility integrated.
  2. A Roadster Car – 0-100 kmph (0-60 mph) in 1.9 seconds. I think that says it all. Period.

Here is a quick overview video of that event, watch it and get your mind blown away –

App of the week –

Pocket

This is my favourite app for ‘Read it Later’ purpose. For example – If I’m reading any article on the interwebs (internet), so I just need a pocket chrome extension for 1 click save that article to Pocket. So that you can get back to that article later for later reading.

This app is silky smooth and comes with good functionality like dark mode for reading on a pure black screen, brightness adjustment (on iPhone and Android apps) and also other display settings like changing the reading font, font size, line space etc.

Once you use it, you’ll feel like never reading an article on any site, you’ll always want to save it to the Pocket app and read it from there.

Just in case if I got you curious, you can go check out this app –

Turning back from the hills.

As I stood there in the midst of the road leading to the city. The hills were right behind me, it was ethereal the way the clouds were striking into these hills and making the whole atmosphere moistly cold.

Should I turn around and just get lost in the hills and never go back? My heart thought.

You’ll be free from the prison of a concrete jungle where you are chained to the rhythm, cutting your life short day by day in this vicious circle of eat, sleep, work repeat! Heart whispered again inside me.

But taking a deep breath and then exhaling into a sigh, I turned back…back from the hills.

Article(s) I’m enjoying (and pondering)

The AI Revolution: The Road to Superintelligence – If you are interested in what future hold and want to learn in detail about AI (Artificial Intelligence) then this long article is for you. Tim Urban of WaitbutWhy.com has written this article in 2015. But till today it feels like reading something completely mind boggling. There is a lot (like a lot lot) of knowledge put in this article.

Summary of the article This article can’t exactly be summarized because there is a plethora of topics covered, but or a very broad level it argues on how the progress of human growth has always been exponential instead of linear and we might just be sitting at the edge of a curve where a life altering human progress boom might be brewing. Tim also talks mainly about AI and how it can be so intense that serious people like Elon Musk are also terrified by AI. AI’s calibre has three major categories as defined by Tim in this article –

1) Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI): A Weak AI, Artificial Narrow Intelligence is AI that specializes in one area. Think of it as a robot who knows how to defeat someone in a chess game but that’s the only thing it knows.

2) Artificial General Intelligence (AGI): Sometimes referred to as Strong AI, or Human-Level AI, Artificial General Intelligence refers to a computer that is as smart as a human across the board. This is where the problem starts and where AI may be a curse in disguise. That’s the point where job cuts may happen and machines start replacing humans in a workplace.

3) Artificial Superintelligence (ASI): Oxford philosopher and leading AI thinker Nick Bostrom defines superintelligence as “an intellect that is much smarter than the best human brains in practically every field, including scientific creativity, general wisdom and social skills.” This is where terms like immortality or extinction come in picture. Either this level of AI makes the human race better (immortal) or it breaks it and we extinct.

What I’m reading/watching/listening to

Elon Musk’s interview with Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval at the NGA 2017 SUMMER MEETING – As you guys know already, I’m an admirer of Elon Musk and really appreciate what he’s doing in the world of technology (software & hardware). He is the real Iron Man of our world, literally the version similar to what Robert Downy Jr. played in Marvel Studio version of the Film. He has a vision towards which he works, he loves to solve problems and doesn’t have boundaries of domain when he’s trying to solve a problem. Like Paypal solved a big cross border transaction problem, Tesla solved a fuel problem, SpaceX solved the problem by being able to commercialize the Space Travel (well, still a long way to go, but a very good start) or the Hyperloop, which will be solving the problem of road travel by cutting down the times significantly (think Los Angeles to San Francisco in 35 minutes with an average speed of 600 Miles per hour), even though it’s on paper but recently the actual trial started and it’s a step in the positive direction.

So the point is Elon is solving problems which probably would have been solved after a decade or two and that is really fascinating.

Last week when I came across this interview of Elon with Brian Sandoval (Governor of the state of Nevada), it was a treat.

He discussed a wide range of topics including Artificial Intelligence, Tesla, SpaceX, Solar power etc. What I found intriguing was the fact that Elon Musk was urging the government to regulate the development of AI. Because as good as it can be to human race, AI can also become a danger to the human existence, he mentioned.

Elon also answered a few interesting questions asked by some state Governors and the general public.

Please enjoy this treat of an interview.

P.S.: This is an abridged version of the original interview.
