Music I loved –

Hans Zimmer – Day One (Interstellar Soundtrack) – I heard this soundtrack in 2015 i think while I saw the movie Interstellar. It entirely changed the mood of the film and made it so much immersive. It reminds me that how important the audio factor is for a film. Hans Zimmer totally nailed it with this move.

Check it out.

An article I’ve been pondering on —

Forget About Setting Goals. Focus on This Instead – This article changed my perspective about goal setting to achieve success in areas you desire. Instead of goal setting, James Clear suggests a different strategy – Fall In Love With Systems.

This change the way I approach any problem or something I want to achieve. Now following the suggested purview, I started designing good systems and implementing them in my life which could take care of the goals automatically.

Great Read.

A song I loved –

Nipsey Hussle ft. Steve Jobs – Who Detached Us – This American rapper was assassinated (this year) on March 31, 2019. That’s when I first stumbled upon his music and found a somewhat weird kind of energy in his music. This particular song which has a short “stay hungry stay foolish” blurb from Steve Jobs, is filled up with lyrics of everyday life and yet is so deep.

Check it out.

A personal I’m fascinated with

Katie Bouman: The woman behind the first black hole image – Oh yes! On 10th April 2019, this 29-year-old computer scientist has created the first image ever of a black hole image!

The black hole image, captured by the Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) – a network of eight linked telescopes – was rendered by Dr Bouman’s algorithm.

3 years ago she led the creation of a new algorithm to produce the first-ever image of a black hole. Which was released on 10th April.

Here is her ted talk which she did right after this achievement –

An article I’m pondering on —

Why you should write By David Perell – David Perell is a prolific writer and I’ve started to love his work.

Here is one of his article which makes a strong statement on “Why you should write?” (Read you=everyone)

A quote from the article –

“Until now, the internet has connected us with people in our past. But writing online connects you with the people in your future.”

David Perell

Another good piece of writing.

A product I’m loving

Rug underlay with anti-slip – You have doormats and rugs at your home and due to the glossy finish of the floor, they slip every now and then, right? This product is the solution. Put it underneath the rugs/mats and they won’t slip again.

An essay I loved and recommend —

Peter Thiel’s Religion – This long-form piece from David Perell is deep and thought-provoking. He has written this long-form essay introduction to Peter Thiel’s ideas. It’s a different take on Peter as David writes about his Christian World View instead of the usual topic – Business for which Peter is famous.

Even though it’s the study of religion from Peter’s viewpoint, but it tells much more about life in the essence of it.

Kudos to David. Thanks for writing this piece.

A product which got me curious

eto

eto: a beautiful innovation in wine preservation – This product was showcased in one of the mails I received from a crowdfunding platform. It’s a wine decanter. This means you can pour your wine into this and let the wine open up the taste, but the most amazing feature of this decanter is that it has a mechanism to air seal the wine which remained from the bottle and it can be consumed after weeks as same as a fresh wine bottle.

If you are a wine connoisseur, this product might be just something you were looking for.

A song I loved —

Walls by Kings of Leon – This song from Kings of Leon has come back to my evening playlist. This song is like a morning after the grieving night. It’s sad but it’s beautiful too at the same time. Like the realisation of good things after they have gone.

Ok. Enough said. Go listen now.

A thought which germinated while meditating to binaural beats – It might sound cliché but here it is –

If you think about it, odds of something happening; especially if it’s something you want, might be 1 in a zillion of possibilities.

They say that if you really want something, the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. But I think that’s only when you take the first step in that quest. It’s when you take the leap of faith.

What is it that you want? What would be your first step?

A conversation which got me super fascinated about city recycling systems —

Brilliant Minds of Trash and Sewage – I found this podcast episode is very interesting. In this episode, Pam Elardo (Deputy Commissioner of New York City’s Department of Environmental Protection) and Ron Gonen (New York City’s first “Recycling Czar”) talk about how waste and Recycling systems in New York City.

New York City generates 1.3 billion gallons of wastewater every day. 16 million pounds of trash. Eight million pounds of recyclables. Think of the awesome engineering and effort behind making all of that “go away” without our thinking about it.

This conversation was fascinating and gives so many ideas which many cities should implement.

A song which has me hypnotised –

Goodbye – This song is the theme song of a Netflix series – Dark. I’m looking forward to watching the series. But when I saw the trailer of this series this song came up.

It’s from a German musician named Apparat and from Album – The Devil’s Walk

Now that I’ve listened to it, there is no going back, this song got stuck in my head and it feels hypnotic

Just mind-bending.

An audiobook I loved and recommend —

Sapiens – A Brief history of humankind – This book changed my world view. It literally taught my history of us humans. A great timeline of billions of years described in hours. But this is not just a history book, it contains a perspective about our existence. How empires grew, how they fell, how the current humans evolved from many human tribes.

Narration from Derek Perkins is amazing. I loved the book and I think every human being should read it.

If you want to read this book for free. Audible gives a book free for my readers. You can go here and start your free trial. In case you love it, keep going or cancel anytime.

A movie I loved –

Superbad – This is not an intellectually stimulating movie. It is funny and a little out of the lines. But this great to watch. Jonah Hill nailed it in many sequences of this movie. It’s a college drama about two friends trying to get alcohol for one of the boy’s crush’s house party. So much happens in between them getting to the alcohol. There is a character in the movie you wanna watch out for – McLovin. Plus Seth Rogen as a police officer. Damn!

Here is a trailer –

An article I want everyone to read and which may be helpful

How to cure mental health issues – definition, natural remedies and techniques that work – Taking the opportunity to share an in-depth article about mental health. I wrote it a few months ago. For someone who is struggling with mental health-related things like anxiety or depression, this article can be a good starting point in trying to understand what it is actually? Early signs. How to deal with it and how to break out.

P.S.: This is not medical advice and I’m not an expert. But the information shared in this article it’s gained through research, experiences and being in direct exposure of some people who struggled with it. It can be a starting point towards learning more about it but not an alternative to medicine.

An innovative idea I loved – (From a Reddit thread)

Eco Friendly Packaging – I’m really pissed off whenever I buy something from Amazon and see all the plastic packaging which comes with the delivery. For them, it’s necessary to safeguard the buyer’s product. But this is impacting the climate in so bad way, we can’t even imagine entirely.

So when I saw this thread on Reddit, I was happily surprised. Even if they put packaging cost to the customer like 10-20 (INR) bucks. I would happily give it.

Great Idea!

A concept I’ve been thinking about —

What If humans had wings? (Literally) – How will the life of mankind will change, if at all we had wings?

This video talks about it on some practical points –

Meditations by Marcus Aurelius – This audiobook has come in so many podcast recommendations. So I finally started it.

Even though it’s deep in meaning and it is pure Stoicism in a nutshell: You cannot control other things and people – you can only control yourself.

I’m finding all the wisdom in the book still relevant. Even though the book is almost ancient.

Some books are timeless, this is one of them.

A lens I’m finding fascinating —

Moment Anamorphic Lens – When I got to know about the anamorphic lens. It straight up blew my mind. So this is how the bigshot movie sequences with those amazing night time lens flares and super-wide shots are being created.

But these lenses are super expensive.

So while searching for an alternative. I found a company called Moment makes the lens for phones. They are the industry leaders (almost) in this area. I later learned that they too make an Anamorphic lens. The coolest thing is they make a case as well which has a standard M-series mount interface with a simple twist-and-lock design (logically similar to a standard lens mount on a DSLR camera but for mobile) and these phone mounts are accepted by many other mobile case design companies in their own designs as well.

Here is where you can buy the case and the lens – Moment Store.

The below video showcases what an anamorphic lens looks like and what it can shoot –

A travel article I enjoyed —

Bullet Climbing Mount Fuji – Mount Fuji, the perfectly spherical volcano. Many of the travellers of it on their bucket list, myself included.

In case it’s in your bucket list too. Check it out, it may be useful.
